Il pioniere del termalismo foriano è stato senza dubbio l’avv. Andrea Castaldi, il quale, consapevole delle virtù terapeutiche dell’acqua termale della sua sorgente, non perse tempo a divulgarne i benefici. Prima fra gli amici che ospitava in casa e poi, in seguito, facendo apprezzare le acque termali sia in Italia che all’estero. Gli ospiti si facevano sempre più assidui in casa Castaldi considerando il fatto che puntualmente ritornavano ad Ischia e quindi a Forio. Bisogna credere che trovassero giovamento a bagnarsi nella sorgente termale “Paolone” per affrontare poi, con minor danno, le brume nordiche e i rigidi inverni. Tra tutti ricordiamo il pittore Emil Nolde, che proprio qui a Forio, insieme al Castaldi, ebbe modo di apprezzare la bellezza della terra foriana e l’occasione di far parte di quel cenacolo artistico – culturale insieme al Maltese, scultore e poeta locale. Al pioniere del turismo locale e termalismo subentrò con entusiasmo e professionalità il figlio Mario che diede un taglio manageriale all’azienda Castaldi, creando strutture e servizi per lo sfruttamento delle risorse delle acque termali e per assicurare una idonea ricettività all’Hotel Castaldi.

Der Pionier des Thermalismus in Forio ist ohne Zweifel der RA Castaldi gewesen. Im Bewusstsein über die therapeutische Wirksamkeit des Thermalwassers seiner Quelle, verschwendete er keine Zeit, um die Vorteile und Nutzen bekannt zu machen. Zuerst unter den Freunden, die er bei sich beherbergte und später, in Folge erwirkte er Wertschätzung dafür sowohl in Italien als auch im Ausland. Die Stammgäste des Hauses Castaldi schätzten dieses Wasser so sehr, dass sie regelmäßig nach Ischia zurückkehrten und zwar dann auch nach Forio. Man muss es glauben, dass es einen Nutzen brachte, sich in der Quelle „Paolone“ zu baden, besonders um später den nordischen Nebeln und strengen Wintern entgegenzutreten und unbeschadeter zu bleiben. Vor allem erinnern wir uns an den Maler Emil Nolde, der selbst hier in Forio und zusammen mit Castaldi die Schönheit der Landschaft um Forio schätzte. Er hatte die Gelegenheit Teil des künstlerisch – kulturellen Treffpunktes, zusammen mit der Maltese, einem ortsansässigen Dichter und Bildhauer, zu sein. Als Pionier des lokalen und des Thermaltourismus trat der Sohn Mario mit Enthusiasmus und Professionalität ein. Er machte in der Führung des Unternehmen Castaldi einen weitere Schnitt, schuf neue Strukturen und Dienstleistungen um diese Ressource "Thermalwasser " und sicherte so dem Hotel Castaldi eine gute Aufnahmefähigkeit.

The pioneer of the local thermalism was dr. Andrea Castaldi who was a lawyer and the one who realized that the water springing from his estate subsoil had got therapeutic proprieties. He didn’t wait long in marking its benefits known among his friend and guests.

Guests were more and more regular at Castaldi’s. They come back to Forio d’Ischia as they found great improvement when diving in the “Paolone” spring. So they could better affront the harsh winter in their country.

We like to remember that the most punctual and friendly guests were such people as Emil Nolde (German painter) and Mr. Maltese (sculptor and writer) with his wife Mrs Fajer (English painter). They all were very active in promoting the first artistic and cultural cenaculum in Forio d’Ischia.

Mr. Mario Castaldi, elder son of dr. Andrea Castaldi who won the Royal Hydrological Congress Medal and Diploma, succeded in improving the ancient structure and in managing the Hotel and Spa enterprise. Time were changing and Mr. Mario Castaldi gave a managerial line to the enterprise creating modern and efficient structures for the exploitation of the thermal water as to assure the guests a proper receptioness. Nowadays Hotel and Spa Castaldi are the best know in Forio and are in the van of progress.
